10 April 2018 Events

On 5 April 2018, we wanted to present a look at the tourism sector, in the presence of tourism experts and students from the MSc International Hospitality Management programme. Pertinent discussions took place, with special guests Laurent Delporte, luxury hotel industry expert and Programme Director for the MSc Luxury Hospitality and Innovation at SKEMA Business School, and Christophe Vallet (SK 1995, Publishing Editor & Managing Director of Authentic Hotels/founder of the “Authentic Hotels & Cruises” guide and label).

The hotel industry certainly isn’t short on labels. However one of these stands out from the rest… Founded in 2005 by Christophe Vallet, grandson of the creator of La Ferme d’Augustin in Saint Tropez and also a travel enthusiast, the Authentic Hotels label identifies smaller-sized hotels that have authenticity as their philosophy and that share values such as hospitality, well-being, attentive service, respect for the environment, conviviality, while also charging “competitive, reasonable and justified” rates. The fourth edition of his guide is also somewhat of a collector’s item, an authentically unique object whose pages are scented with essences such as lavender or mint, expertly chosen by the perfumer Pierre Bourdon.

Points of view were presented on the hospitality culture, the creation of a label with genuine references for guests, entrepreneurial projects such as the organic cosmetics brand CHO Nature, a wonderful family affair for Anne-Sophie Grivon (SK 2014). The notion of luxury was also a topic of discussion: can it be defined solely by a number of stars? Laurent Delporte gave a talk to shed some light on the luxury hotel industry – www.laurentdelporte.com presents his experience in the luxury and high-end hotel sector. He has over 75,000 followers on social media, which makes him Europe’s leading influencer in his field!
