Alumni Dubai Club welcomes a new ambassador

07 January 2020 Events

The alumni network now has 218 SKEMA graduates in the UAE. On the evening of 27 November 2019, there was a sense of pride in the air for the 25 alumni in attendance. Pride at seeing the Dubai community grow, but also joy at getting together to greet new arrivals from France and welcome the new ambassador, Hugo Maugenest (SK 2017), Associate at Commerzbank AG.

As we all know, Dubai is always the catalyst for an avalanche of new connections since the Emirate established itself as a major hub at the intersection of three continents, in a mind-blowing setting across from the world’s tallest tower. The SKEMA Alumni Dubai Club is a major catalyst for these new connections too.

For example, it connected two alumni who recently married each other: Claire Gouy (SK 2011) and Jonathan Gouy (SK 2009), who met in New York during their final year internship. They then moved to London and will now be making the move to Dubai by early 2020. Claire and Jonathan: "We made a quick stop here in Dubai to be here tonight, to chat with the alumni and gather a bit more information about this new city.” They're a perfect example of alumni actively using the network. Another example: Aude Bourdon, who is currently here for her final year internship as a Trade Marketing Assistant at Guerlain. Very soon, she will be heading to Miami for a Volunteer for International Experience (VIE) contract. Thanks to this event, she got to connect with Nastasia Treppel (SK 2019), Marketing Assistant at Robert Wan and recently arrived here herself after spending two years in Miami.

And finally, this event was the perfect opportunity to announce that the SKEMA Alumni Dubai Club is now run by 3 ambassadors: Marine Jeannot (SK 2013),Guillaume Babin (SK 2008) and Hugo Maugenest (SK 2017).

Hugo Maugenest (SK 2017): "I’m thrilled to be joining Marine and Guillaume. After signing my permanent contract this summer, I can finally start to put down some roots in Dubai and get involved in a few projects, like becoming an ambassador. Joining SKEMA was one of the best decisions of my life. The school has brought me so much, on both a personal and a professional level. I met some incredible people there with whom I’ve shared unforgettable moments (including this year spent in the USA, on the Raleigh campus).
And it’s also thanks to the network that I was able to obtain my two gap year internships. Thanks to those, I was accepted into the MSc FMI, a master’s without which I never would have got this job in Dubai. If I’m now able to enjoy Dubai’s unrivalled quality of life in a city and position that are a good fit for me, it’s thanks to SKEMA and its network.
So this ambassador role is a way for me to give something back and to thank my school, because I owe it so much."

We extend Hugo a warm welcome. See you all in 2020 (February or March).
