For French expats in London - “Are you planning to buy real estate in France?”

03 May 2019 Events

The first ever SKEMA ALUMNI UK talk was held on 24 April at CitizenM Bankside. Alumnus and expert Gary Vigier (SK 2008), Financial Advisor and Managing Partner at OptiFi HFM, was the guest speaker.

Giovanna "A really interesting talk. Kudos to the speaker for his expertise"
Jonathan "Very interesting, since I’m currently looking to buy a place to rent out"

(See a summary of the talk)
Attentive to the needs and wants of their community, the two ambassadors Emmanuelle Pfaff and Amélie Willemet offered to kick off a series of talks with this first topic, of particular interest to the London network. This is a new event format "that we want to repeat once a year to develop the professional side of the network by covering topics that are important to our alumni."

The talk covered the current state of the real estate market in France, the attractiveness of the major cities, and the laws governing real estate investments. Gary Vigier particularly focused on the “investing from abroad” perspective and the main rules applying to non-residents.
For the second part of the evening, a cocktail reception was organised to give people an opportunity to chat about real estate investing and other topics... around a glass (or several) of wine and some cheese and charcuterie platters. "You can take the French out of France but you can’t take France out of the French! Bread, wine and cheese remain the staple of any “apéro” between expats!"

Investing in France when you’re not a resident can prove difficult. Distance, lack of knowledge about the market and the main laws... there are elements that can make the decision more difficult.
And yet, real estate is still one of the main choices for long-term investments. Some alumni want to prepare for their return to France, others just want to diversify their assets and create a new income stream. Whatever their motivation, real estate investing remains a recurring theme among expats.

Emmanuelle and Amélie "The SKEMA Alumni London team are currently working on the next event, in the summer. We’ll have a bit more information for you in a few weeks!"

THANKS to Emmanuelle and Amélie, our ambassadors
THANKS to Gary Vigier, who made the trip specially from Nice
