Tailor-made for the London network

04 March 2020 Events

Taking advantage of a visit to a couple of companies organised thanks to two alumni, Ioannis Kontaris (SK 2016) and Shadie Paris (SK 2018), 35 students from the MSc in Financial Markets & Investments programme on the Sophia campus accompanied by their programme director, Tarek Amyuni, also had the privilege of chatting with experts from the UK network during the Finance event held on 27 February 2020.  40 alumni attended. Some of them took great pleasure in seeing their former professor, Tarek, again, while for others it was a chance to talk about their career progression in the heart of the City. The three ambassadors, Amelie Willemet (SK 2015), Keren Malca (SK 2017) and Laura Bru (SK 2017), were there to greet people and make introductions. A special welcome message was addressed to Keren and Laura, who were promoted to the role of ambassador on the night! (read more about that).

In the early evening, the tone was set by Tarek Amyuni, with his talk on what is currently a hot topic: “The Coronavirus and its major impact on the financial markets”.
TarekThe alumni event in London gave me the opportunity to catch up with some of my former students and to note that their ambitions of working in the UK in trading, capital markets and other finance-related fields have made them real experts. I’m proud to have been able to support them and proud to see their commitment to the school and their alumni community. This is a close-knit network
! One example is Ioannis Kontaris (SK 2016), Head of Business Development Europe, Russia & CIS at Refinitiv, who welcomed 35 FMI students to the company where he is currently working. Another is Shadie Paris (SK 2018), Bond Syndicate, who opened the doors of Crédit Agricole CIB to us.”

Les diplômés et étudiants prennent la parole  :

Louise Bonnet (SK 2016), Investment Solutions @ Marex Financial ProductsAfter a one-year internship at Commerzbank London, I was offered a permanent position on the structured products sales team, where I stayed for two and a half years. At the start of January 2020, I joined the structured products sales team at Marex Financial. I think moving to London was the right choice, because there are far more opportunities here than in Paris for example. What’s more, because UK contracts are more flexible, more people are hired here. I really encourage all students not to be afraid of moving overseas. My recommendations: take an interest and ask questions. And above all, cultivate your network! The world of financial markets is quite small, so if someone likes you they will help you. Likewise, you have to pay attention to your reputation and, as much as possible, avoid getting too many strikes against your name (attitude, mistakes, etc.).”

Alexandra Thulliez (SK 2014), Executive Consultant - Accountancy & Finance @ Goodman Masson: After spending four years in recruitment at Hays Paris, I decided to go and experience a new adventure in London. I jumped at the chance to develop the recruitment of financial profiles from the Parisian market for one of the top recruitment firms in London. I recommend that all Skemans gain some work experience abroad and make the most of our big alumni community. The moment I arrived here in January 2019, I reached out to the network by participating in the different events. I have met some great people and, more importantly, I’ve started a band with a girl who used to be in my musical association. I’m also involved in several musical projects with other alumni. Our community is rich; it’s up to you to help build it up around the world, so don’t hesitate... go for it!

Two students had also made the trip from Rennes and Paris to meet the UK network, with the goal of joining the MSc FMI programme at the start of the next academic year.

Naoual Ait M'HamedI’m very interested in joining the MSc FMI. For me, this event is an excellent opportunity to chat with alumni and students of the programme. I’m also very keen on the idea of pursuing my career in London, where the opportunities and prospects in the field of finance are very attractive and challenging.

Sophia Syed: “I’m currently doing a gap year internship with BNP Paribas in Global Banking, Corporate Investment Banking. I made the trip to London because I wanted to meet the members of the UK network. The network offers real added value, as I got to hear the advice of alumni and meet Tarek Amuyni, ask him my questions and talk to him about my ambitions with regard to the FMI programme. Since I want to work in Finance and more particularly in private equity or M&A funds, to me London is the place to be for this sector. This event was therefore a wonderful opportunity and I would like to thank SKEMA Alumni for supporting me in my endeavour.”

In parallel to this event, Meige Rivet (SKEMA Alumni Career Manager) had organised some individual career sessions. Personalised support to boost the careers of our London alumni!

There is no doubt that this event in London was tailor-made specifically for our alumni and students!
