Entrepreneurship and expatriation: two words that are a great fit for the SKEMA Alumni Australia club!

23 April 2019 Events

On Thursday 4 April, several SKEMA alumni and students got together at Mordeo in Sydney to talk about entrepreneurship and expatriation.

Of the different profiles present, more than half had already set up one or several businesses abroad.

Whether alumni or still following a SKEMA programme, most had already lived in at least two countries over the course of their career. This has led us to conclude that entrepreneurship and expatriation go hand in hand, because even those who hadn’t started their own business were, in a way, entrepreneurs of their own life, given their choice to move abroad and head to new horizons in search of adventure.

The French root of entrepreneurship, entreprendre - ‘to undertake’ - can have different meanings. It can of course mean starting a business, but it can also apply to someone who undertakes to break from their daily life and routine in France to try their luck in Sydney.

Much like Nathalie Taquet, who quit her position as Team Manager for a large corporation to devote herself to her passion, French gastronomy. She has started her own business, Bottli. She introduces Australians to the French art de vivre (art of living), by selling home-delivered discovery boxes of French wines, champagnes and craft beers.

It’s the case also for our ambassador, Priscilla, who shared with us her passion for VR and her business OviSquare.com, which she founded in 2018. She is someone who is always on the lookout for innovations, so this is not her first entrepreneurial venture and she definitely plans to ride the wave of these new digital challenges to solve the issues of tomorrow.

There is no doubt that SKEMA students have a real taste for adventure and diversity and that it was a convivial evening full of learning!
