SKEMA launches a Global DBA in Sustainability programme

12 May 2022 School

Suzhou & Paris, May 10th 2022: SKEMA Business School has launched a Global Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) in Sustainability, one of world’s first doctoral degree with a unique focus on sustainability that enables learners to take their courses on three different continents – Europe, North America and Asia. It aims at helping senior executives develop applied research capabilities to solve both complex business challenges and boost growth.

In today’s business world, the ability to make decisions that are compatible with sustainability is a core capability for leaders.

Taught entirely in English and supported by SKEMA’s Faculty and Research department in France and other SKEMA international campuses (e.g., China), the programme aims to prepare learners and develop their competencies in addressing sustainable business challenges and adding value to organisations.

"Through applied research, we promote the learning and discovery of innovative business strategies that empower organisations to achieve long-term and sustainable goals," said Professor Wenyu Dou, the programme’s director on SKEMA’s Suzhou campus.

The curriculum of the SKEMA Global DBA in Sustainability comprises seven elements with a total of 180 ECTS credits, including residential weeks, research methods courses, electives, research proposal, mentoring workshops, career paths, the final DBA thesis, and a scholarly apprentice workshop along with individual supervision.

Taking advantage of SKEMA Business School’s glocal identity, the three international residential weeks based in Europe, North and Latin America, and Asia consist of selected courses, networking opportunities, mentoring support, meeting distinguished academic or professional guests, and the opportunity to have an immersive local cultural experience.

The programme structure of the SKEMA Global DBA includes three major elements:

1. Fundamentals of academic research (Year 1)

2. Academic research for sustainable and social impact (Years 2 and 3)

3. Career advancement paths – optional (Year 4)

“Our programme seeks to admit a highly selective group of senior executives who have an intellectual curiosity about how businesses or organisations can embrace sustainability principles and boost growth,” explains Professor Christian Linder, the Global DBA in Sustainability programme director on SKEMA’s Grand Paris campus.

After the successful completion of the programme, graduates will obtain a professional doctoral degree and will be able to apply their research competencies into practice to make a lasting impact on businesses, society and environment. They are also equipped with the pedagogical skills for teaching positions in higher education institutions.

To join the programme, applicants normally should have a master’s degree in business-related disciplines from recognised universities and substantial experience at a senior level.
