Hi, my name is Jean-Baptiste Welsch. I’m 25 years old and have just graduated with a double MSc. degree in International Marketing and Business Development from SKEMA Business School (SK 2015) and Lappeenranta University of Technology.
A strong advocate for sporting values and solidarity, I climbed the top of Mont Blanc in July 2014 for Association Petits Princes, which grants the wishes of seriously ill children and teenagers. In this new year, I am exporting my project, which combines sport, solidarity and marketing, to Africa: in July 2016 I plan to climb Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands 5,895 metres tall. My goal is to raise €2,016 for Association Petits Princes. A child or teenager suffering from cancer or leukaemia will thus be able to make their wish come true too. “The Peak of Dreams in Africa” is the name of my project.
The idea for this project began to form in my mind on the Raleigh campus in 2012-2013. In the United States, I discovered a sports- and solidarity-focused atmosphere on all levels, from local events organised by NCSU students to larger-scale events such as the Raleigh marathon. Sports and solidarity for the community are everywhere. A few months later, in July 2014, I was on Mont Blanc, the ‘roof of Europe’, at an altitude of 4,810 metres, and I had successfully raised €1,545 for Association Petits Princes so that a teenager with cancer could have an all-inclusive weekend away with his family in an animal park. That is when I realised the true significance of my project.
So my project has two aims: to raise €2,016 in private donations for Association Petits Princes and to find companies and institutions willing to support me financially to reach my African mountain top!
